Christmas Lumber Company, Inc. was founded in 1926 by James David Christmas in Harriman, Tennessee and after more than 90 years is still a family-owned company operating in two locations.

Mr. Christmas decided to expand his company and encourage his son-in-law, John Harvey Smith to join the business. In 1950 Mr. Smith graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He was a WWII and Korean War veteran. After his military service, he decided to return home to Roane County and enter the lumber business with Mr. Christmas.

Mr. Smith expanded the business by purchasing Stowers Lumber and Manufacturing in 1976 and Powell Investments, Inc. in 1981. A truss and door manufacturing division was added in 1979 and to complement the rapidly expanding yard the decision was made to rebuild and improve the structures.

Christmas Lumber Company's community loyalty has been demonstrated many times over the years including establishing a "James David Christmas Presidential Scholarship" at Roane State Community College and a large gift of land to establish a community park in Harriman. The company supports many charitable organizations in Knox County as well.

Mr. Smith was the long-time Chairman and President and remained employed by Christmas Lumber Company until his death in 2013. Presently, Theron Cleveland III is President and manager of the Knoxville location and has been employed since 1978. Mr. Cleveland's son, Tee Cleveland and great-grandson of the founder, James David Christmas, is the CEO.

Mr. Smith's daughters are currently active in the family business. Sally S. Cleveland and Tracy L. Smith are both members of the Board of Directors. Christmas Lumber Company was built on a reputation of exceptional service, quality products, and fair and competitive pricing. The Company continues to expand and grow its customer base and product offerings.
